Covilhã’s candidacy for UNESCO’s Creative City in Design was associated with the Workshop On Renewable Energies event, and was present at Amphitheater 8.1. of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior to make the participants aware of the scope of the Application. The event, organized by the University of Beira Interior as a member of UNITA, took place between 27 and 28 October 2021, with its program distributed between the cities of Covilhã and Guarda.
The University of Beira Interior is a member of UNITA, an alliance between six research universities from five countries: University of Beira Interior Portugal), Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain), Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (France), Université Savoie Mont Blanc (France), Università di Torino (Italy) and Universitatea de Vest din Timisoara (Romania). UNITA is not a network composed only of Universities, it also integrates relevant actors in each regional ecosystem representing the socioeconomic sector, public authorities, legislators and civil organizations. In addition to the commitment to contribute to the development of societies and territories with a European dimension, UNITA members share among themselves the fact that they are located in mountainous rural and cross-border regions, encourage the active use of a diversity of Romance languages in addition to English, and share innovative areas of education and research, namely in the fields of Renewable Energies, Cultural Heritage and Circular Economy.
